Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a safe, non-invasive treatment for injured soft tissues, especially chronic conditions affecting tendons and the plantar fascia. It offers an alternative to surgery and steroid injections, effectively stimulating the healing process and reducing pain.
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is effective for conditions such as plantar fasciitis and tendon issues involving the Achilles, hamstrings, patellar tendons, glutes, etc.
Benefits of Shockwave Therapy
- Reduced pain signaling from nerve fibers
- Increased blood circulation in surrounding tissues
- Stimulation of the healing process through stem cell activation.
Injection Therapy
What is injection therapy?
Injection therapy in podiatry refers to the use of targeted injectable medications to treat foot, ankle and knee pain, inflammation, joint pathology, nerve conditions, and soft-tissue injuries.
It’s commonly used when conservative care (orthotics, taping, footwear modification, rehab exercises) hasn’t been sufficient.
Corticosteroid Injections (Anti-inflammatory): These are the most common injections in podiatry.
Used for:
-
Plantar fasciitis
-
Sinus tarsi syndrome
-
Morton’s neuroma
-
Bursitis
-
Knee pain
-
Arthritic joints (e.g., 1st MTP in hallux rigidus)
What Is It Exactly?
Ostenil is a sterile injection containing sodium hyaluronate, a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in:
-
Synovial fluid (joint fluid)
-
Cartilage
-
Connective tissue
It acts as a lubricant and shock absorber inside joints.
